It means users do not particularly need to rely on Google Docs links or other transfer services if they want to preserve the crisp video quality while sharing it with others. How to send HD videos and photos on WhatsApp
The feature is quite straightforward. Users first need to select the file they want to share. Before hitting the send button, look for the “HD” icon at the top. Here, you can change the resolution to HD from standard quality, which is enabled by default. Naturally, sending images and videos in higher resolution will take more data and storage.
Interestingly, users can choose the resolution they want to download. During the announcement, WhatsApp said, “If you receive a photo when you have low bandwidth connectivity, you can choose on a photo-by-photo basis whether to keep the standard version or upgrade it to HD.”
The support for HD video sharing seems to be a server-side update, though users are advised to keep the app updated. Video and photo sharing in HD is yet to roll out on the WhatsApp web version. However, users can receive and download HD files via the web version.
WhatsApp has been highly active in pushing out updates this year. Apart from support for sharing in HD, the Meta-owned messaging platform rolled out a multi-phone connectivity option this year. The highly demanded feature lets users use the same WhatsApp account on different smartphones simultaneously.
More recently, WhatsApp announced a screen-sharing feature during video calls. The feature is now commonly available across video conferencing platforms, like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Meet. As the name suggests, screen sharing lets users mirror the phone screen with others while on a video call. It can be highly useful during quick office calls.
The platform is also testing some other features. Recently, it was reported that the messaging company might soon roll out multi-account support on a single device. Multi-account support on a single device is already available on WhatsApp’s sister platforms, Facebook and Instagram, under the Meta umbrella. The feature could be highly useful for those who use different WhatsApp accounts for work and home.
