Income Tax Return Verification Process: After you file your Income Tax Return (ITR) in India, verification is a crucial step to complete the process. The Income Tax Department offers several methods for verifying your ITR.

ITR Filing Last Date 2024: The last date for filing an ITR for the financial year 2023-24 (assessment year 2024-25) is Wednesday, July 31, 2024, for most individual taxpayers whose accounts are not subject to audit.

Why ITR Verification Is Mandatory?

ITR verification is a critical step to ensure the authenticity and validity of the tax return, enabling the Income Tax Department to process returns efficiently, prevent fraud, and maintain an accurate and secure tax system.

Here’s a list of various ways to verify your ITR:

1. E-Verification using Aadhaar OTP

-Link your Aadhaar with your PAN.

-Ensure your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar.

-Select the option for Aadhaar OTP under the e-verification methods.

-An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.

-Enter the OTP on the e-filing portal to complete the verification.

2. E-Verification using Net Banking

-Log in to your bank’s net banking portal.

-Look for the option to e-verify ITR, usually under the tax section.

-Select the relevant ITR form and proceed.

-You will be redirected to the e-filing portal, and your ITR will be automatically verified.

3. E-Verification using Bank Account

-Pre-validate your bank account on the e-filing portal.

-Select the bank account option under e-verification methods.

-An Electronic Verification Code (EVC) will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.

-Enter the EVC on the portal to complete the verification.

4. E-Verification using Demat Account

-Pre-validate your Demat account on the e-filing portal.

-Select the Demat account option under e-verification methods.

-An EVC will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.

-Enter the EVC on the portal to complete the verification.

5. E-Verification using ATM

-Visit an ATM of a bank that provides this service.

-Swipe your ATM card and select the option to generate an EVC for income tax filing.

-The EVC will be sent to your registered mobile number.

-Enter the EVC on the e-filing portal to complete the verification.

6. Verification using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

-Obtain a DSC from a certified vendor.

-Register the DSC on the e-filing portal.

-Attach the DSC file while filing the ITR.

-The ITR will be automatically verified upon submission.

7. Physical Verification by Sending ITR-V to CPC, Bengaluru

-If you cannot use any of the electronic verification methods, you can physically verify your ITR.

-Download the ITR-V (Acknowledgment) from the e-filing portal.

-Sign the ITR-V in blue ink.

-Send the signed ITR-V to the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) in Bengaluru via ordinary post or speed post within 30 days of filing the ITR.
