Banks Holiday In December 2023: During the month of December, banks in India will remain closed for a total of 18 days. Individuals planning to visit the bank for urgent matters should be mindful of the specified holiday dates. It’s important for bank customers to note that although physical branches will be closed on these upcoming holidays, digital services such as mobile banking, UPI and internet banking will remain operational without any disruptions.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has identified certain holidays in December, leading to bank closures:
- December 01- There will be a bank holiday in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland due to the State Inauguration Day.
- December 03- Banks will remain closed due to the first Sunday of the month.
- December 04- Banks will remain closed in Goa due to the St. Francis Xavier Festival.
- December 05- Second Saturday of the month and will be a bank holiday.
- December 10- There will be a bank holiday due to Sunday.
- December 12 – There will be a bank holiday in Meghalaya due to Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma.
- December 13- There will be a bank holiday in Sikkim due to Losung/Namsung.
- December 14- There will be a holiday for banks in Sikkim due to Losung/Namsung.
- December 17- Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
- December 18- There will be a bank holiday in Meghalaya due to the death anniversary of U Soso Tham.
- December 19- There will be a holiday for banks in Goa due to Liberation Day.
- December 23- Fourth Saturday of the month, banks will remain closed across the country.
- December 24- Bank holiday across the country due to Sunday.
- December 25- There will be a holiday for banks across the country due to Christmas.
- December 26- Due to Christmas celebrations, banks will not open in Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
- December 27- Bank holiday in Nagaland due to Christmas.
- December 30- Banks will not open in Meghalaya in view of U Kiang Nangbah.
- December 31- There will be a bank holiday due to Sunday.

Bank Strike December 2023
Earlier, the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) had called for a 6-day nationwide strike in December, affecting different banks on different dates.
However, a few media reports suggest that unions have decided to defer the strike in December and January 2-6, 2024, respectively, as IBA is believed to have agreed to their demands.
Reportedly, the all-India strike on January 19 and 20 next year, stands planned according to the schedule.

- December 4: Punjab National Bank (PNB), Punjab and Sind Bank, State Bank of India (SBI)
- December 5: Bank of Baroda, Bank of India
- December 6: Canara Bank, Central Bank of India

- December 8: Union Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra
- December 11: All Private Banks
The RBI classifies holidays into three categories: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
The occurrence of bank holidays differs among states, contingent on the festivals observed in specific regions. On gazetted holidays, banks remain closed nationwide.
