UP govt makes Aadhaar mandatory for Class 10, 12 students from next year

The Uttar Pradesh government will make Aadhaar cards mandatory for Class 10 and 12 students from 2024. Officials have already started the process of authenticating the 12-digit unique identity numbers for the current batch of students. It will also be certified for those students taking admission in class 9 and 11.

The move is intended to curtail the many impersonation cases faced by the UP Board while conducting the annual exams. The ongoing authentication process will also ensure that the Aadhaar number is a mandatory part of the examination forms for next year.

The decision was taken following approval given by the state government to the UP Board. If there are differences or errors in the id card, the students and parents should be directed by the schools and get the discrepancies resolved.

Impersonation has long been an issue for the UP board exam. 133 cases were reported in 2023 in spite of the board matching Aadhaar cards of the registered candidates with the individuals appearing for the exams last year.

Board secretary Dibyakant Shukla has now directed the principals of all schools to match the Aadhaar numbers, spelling of names, dates of birth, gender, and other details of the students who had taken admission. The information will then be uploaded to the official UP Board website by May 20.
